Paolo Restani
Shortly after his debut with Muti and La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra at the Ravenna Festival, Paolo Restani inaugurated the Filarmonica Laudamo's last season playing as a soloist with the Vittorio Emanuele Theatre Orchestra conducted by Alessio Vlad. It was an exciting concert, almost a complete rendition of Liszt's music for piano and orchestra. H e is not knew to these complete performances, and his repertoire includes those composed by Brahms, Chopin's Etudes as well as Beethoven's music for piano and orchestra, but it is with Liszt that perhaps one can seize the highest result of his pianism, matured at Vincenzo Vitale's school where he was the maestro's last pupil. This is also confirmed also by the recording of the Transcendental Etudes recently published by Amadeus ; a splendid interpretation, worthy of appearing next to Claudio Arrau's legendary one. But his has something more; the atmosphere of our times enlivening the music and proving that “one can play as if smiling when following noble and at times sad and tragic thoughts that are however never desperate and negative” ( Q. Principe ).
