John Williams

A myth, a living legend with charm that is constantly renewed. John Williams concerts in Italy are rare events, and always greeted as really important occasions. Born in Melbourne in 1947, Williams studied ar rhe Chigiana di Siena with André Segovia, becoming his favourite pupil and then his direct heir in the art of the guitar. He made his debut at the Wigmore Hall in 1958, and ever since the Sixties he has taught at the Royal College of Music in London. Today he is considered the most important ‘ambassador' for his instrument of which he knows every secret and almost all the music ever written for it. He has recorded for Sony the complete etudes for the lute by Bach, he plays the classical composers using a 1814 Guadagnino guitar, using a repertoire from the last two centuries with colleagues such as Julian Bream, Itzhak Perlman André Previn, Leo Brower, Simon Rattle, and orchestras such as the London Sinfonietta, the Australian Chamber Orchestra and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. He also however works with the Inti Illimani, Paco Pena, Paul Hart and the National Youth Jazz, and loves folk music from every country. El diablo suelto is one of his most recent spectacular projects based on music from South America.
