Roberto Scarcella Perino

What is the secret of the energy imprisoned within light? And what happens to those who try and steal this secret? We learn this from the Scientists in Blackout who, after losing control of events during an experiment, is catapulted into the world of light and obliged to deal with its bizarre inhabitants. Mr. Reflection, the Shock, the Colours, Morgan, the Waves in Love: each of them capable of revealing to him a small part of the truth. But above all it is Icarus, the curious angel who will open his eyes. A sad destiny awaits those who are unable to see and acknowledge. And the Darkness, always waiting close by, knows this. Blackout, an opera fairytale for children and adults by the composer from Messina, Roberto Scarcella Perino, still now active at the New York University, was presented as an absolute premier (in English) at the Tarrytown Music Hall in New York on October 18th 2003. The Filarmonica Laudamo is presenting the first adaptation in Italian, in a semi-theatrical forma, with the “Progetto Suono” treble voice Choir, original costumes by Laurel Douglas and directed by Roberta Farolfi, who is also the author of the libretto. Musical direction is by the composer himself.
