Marko Letonja

The Milan “Giuseppe Verdi” Symphonic Orchestra

Benedetto Lupo

the “Verdi” Milan Symphonic Orchestra’s Italian tour with twelve events held at the most important concert halls such as the GOG in Genoa, the Unione Musicale in Turin, the Accademia Filarmonica Romana, the San Carlo Theatre in Naples, the Amici della Musica in Palermo and the Filarmonica Laudamo di Messina, is the great musical event in the autumn of 2006. During this tour the orchestra is led by Marko Letonja, the current principal conductor for the Basle Symphonic Orchestra. Soloist at the piano is Benedetto Lupo, a great interpreter and the winner of international competitions (Cortot, Casadesus, Van Cliburn). The programme presented is extremely important and opens with the electrifying four versions of the Nocturnal Retreat in Madrid by Boccherini arranged and ‘superimposed’ by Luciano Berio, to then continue with memorable pieces such as the Rite of Spring by Stravinskij and Rachmaninov’s Third. The tour of a symphonic orchestra with over on hundred elements such as the Verdi Orchestra has been made possible thanks to support provided by CIDIM within the framework of a larger project that this organisation has pursued for years and addressed at organising tours for the best national orchestras and the valorisation of young Italian talents.
