Ring Around Quartet

«Gioco di Voci»

The Ring Around Quartet is an Italian vocal group with an English name and that often sings ancient repertoires in French. The origins of this name are quite simple: it is part of the title of an American ragtime song – Ring Around the Rosy Rag by Arno Guthrie – with which these four young Genoese musicians started to sing in 1993, brought together by friendship, complicity, and their love for polyphonic vocal music from all historical eras, an element that brings them close to the legendary Hilliard Ensemble. Today the quartet is hosted by international Mayri festivals and has recorded a number of original CDs such as Volgete gli occhi a tante meraviglie. La musica a Genova nell’età di Rubens and Quattro voci su tela. Musiche per Van Dick all recorded for the Rivoalto/Electa label. Gioco di voci is instead a project based on the profane repertoire from European humanist and renaissance courts. The group presents it within a “theatrical” perspective, producing a sort of concert-performance they themselves direct, in which the visual element is as important as the music.
