Considered nowadays from the correct distance and according to a correct historical perspective, the Italian 20th century seems to us a real mine of musical gems that have remained hidden for far too long. Hence the existence of great interest for this most recent production by the E.A.R. Messina Theatre programmed within the concert season organised by the Filarmonica Laudamo. The programme is extremely coherent, portraying the various souls of Italian 20th century music. From the Preludes for the tragedy Oedipus King by Sophocles, the first great symphonic work by Pizzetti addressed at recuperating the classicism filled with ethical values, to the brilliant score of La Boutique Fantasque, a ballet on music by Rossini composed by Respighi for Diaghilev’s Russian Ballets, to the Suite for piano, strings and percussions by Contilli (published by Universal in Vienna in 1954 and performed as an absolute premier the following year at the SIMC International Festival in Baden-Baden), to the overwhelming Third Symphony by Nino Rota, the Vittorio Emanuele Theatre Orchestra conducted by Sergio Monterisi, with at the piano the soloist Ninì Giusto, accompany us in this musical journey through the last century.
