Ramin Bahramir
The name that appears most often in the life Ramin
Bahrami is that of Bach, the musician to which
he has devoted most of his concert activity, and
who until now had brought him approval from audiences
and critics alike. There has however in recent
years been anther name linked increasingly often
to his own, that of Glenn Gould, the legendary
Canadian pianist who thanks to his recordings
has taken Bach’s music to the top of hit
parades for the most sold records. In fact, just
like the Goldberg Variations that Gould
recorded twice, at the beginning and at the end
of his career, these recordings marked a turning-point
in the history of interpretation, and above all
in making Bach known t younger generations, just
as the Arte della Fuga recorded by Ramin
Bahrami in 2007 for la Decca went straight to
the top of the charts for most sold albums in
the world. «Ramin Bahrami disassembles and
reassembles Bach’s music in a way that resembles
the Glenn Gould model, without ever becoming excessively
similar to it», wrote Piero Rattalino, one
of Bahrami’s teachers. Other tutelary deities
presided over the training of this young Iranian
pianist, including Rosalyn Tureck, the artist
who more than others contributed to making Bach
known during the 20th Century, with her studies
and her performances.
