The Mantua Chamber Orchestra
Carlo Fabiano – Gabriele Carcano
Since its debut in 1981 in the splendid setting
of the Bibiena Theatre in Mantua, an architectural
jewel and the ideal location for music, The Mantua
Chamber Orchestra commanded attention for what
are still today its particular characteristics:
technical brilliance, assiduous research for sound
quality, particular sensitivity for problems posed
by style. In the course of its artistic life,
the orchestra has worked with conductors and soloists
such as Salvatore Accardo, Gidon Kremer, Shlomo
Mintz, Uto Ughi, Misha Maisky, Katia and Marielle
Labeque, Andrea Lucchesini and, last but not least,
Alexander Lonquich, who chose this orchestra to
present as both conductor and soloist the integral
version of Mozart’s concerts for the piano.
This orchestra is in fact no newcomer to such
far-reaching initiatives, such as the Beethoven
Project in 2002 guided by its main conductor Umberto
Benedetti Michelangeli. Within the framework of
an Italian tour sponsored by CIDIM, the orchestra
plays at the Filarmonica Laudamo with recourse
to the presence of a pianist who is as young as
he is talented: Gabriele Carcano, who has made
his debut both as a soloist and performing with
the orchestra in prestigious locations, such as
the La Fenice Theatre in Venice, the Regio in
Turin, and the Montpellier Festival where he played
in a duo with Aldo Ciccolini.
