Enrico Baiano
After a concert held in London by Enrico Baiano,
the Early Music Review wrote: «If
more harpsichord players had played as he does
during the 18th Century there would have been
no need to invent the piano!». The magazine
Musica described his performances as
«more enthralling and colourful than a performance
by an orchestra», and Le monde de la
Musique commented: «His command of
dynamics is impressive (with those crescendos
that on each occasion appear to discover new levels
of intensity!), the expressiveness of the canto
is complete and the state of euphoria that overcomes
the listener is still the best mark of his success».
A reference figure for baroque keyboard techniques,
Enrico Baiano performs in both recitals
on splendid ancient and modern harpsichords and
with the ensembles Dissonanzen, Piccolo
Concerto Wien, and the Cappella della Pietà
dei Turchini. His recording for Symphonia and
Opus 111 have won the German Critics’ Award,
the Diapason d’Or, ‘10’ from
Répertoire, and “5 stars” from
the specialised press. The extremely colourful
programme he presents at the Filarmonica Laudamo
is centred on Domenico Scarlatti, on the 250th
anniversary of his death, with incursions in other
repertoires, including that of the Cappella Senatoria
from the Cathedral in Messina where Bernardo Storace
was vice-maestro in 1664.
