Rosalba Lazzarotto Double Piano Orchestra
Double rainbow is an original project
by Rosalba Lazzarotto, inspired to Sicilian atmospheric
phenomena, myths and traditional legends. The
author’s orchestral wide-ranging search
resulted in the use of a set-up that is unusual
in contemporary jazz. Abandoning the
traditional rhythmic (piano, contrabass, percussions),
the harmonic and rhythmic support is in fact entrusted
to two pianos that intervene simultaneously, characterising
the music with unusual elements thanks precisely
to the different timbres. The contrabass is added,
and its robust expressivity is exalted by the
frequent use of strings. On this backdrop
the voice and the trumpet stand out, interwoven
in a close dialogue both during the exposition
of themes and when improvising. Double rainbow,
published by Wide Sound with images of work by
the painter and sculptress Maria Rando, has as
a guest star Salvatore Bonafede, a musician
from Palermo who has worked at length in the USA,
where he performed and recorded with Paul Motian,
Billy Hart, Tom Harrel and Joe Lovano, who merges
the culture acquired overseas with his own island
roots in an extremely evocative expressive style.
