Krystian Zimerman
Here is some advice for all those who love great
music, and in particular for audiences loyal to
the Filarmonica Laudamo: book your seats now or
you may well be left out of what is going to be
the great event of the 2007-8 seasons. Without
fearing to offend any of the musicians present
in the programme, there is no doubt that this
first ever recital by Krystian Zimerman
in Messina is an exceptional event, and is destined
to remain impressed not only in the city’s
musical annals, but above all in the memories
and hearts of those who over the years have followed
the stages of his artistic career. For now we
have known this great Polish pianist, who with
his victory in 1975 at the Chopin Competition
as an eighteen year old, achieved international
fame he has never lost, with his recordings for
Deutsche Grammophon in which he explored many
different repertoires, also with conductors such
as Karajan, Bernstein and Boulez, always with
memorable results. This is a unique opportunity
for renewing in a live performance those emotions
that his music has given us until now. This occasion
is all the more precious since it coincides with
a period in Kystof Zimerman’s life during
which, as has been written, he is intentionally
reducing his public appearances and recordings
«embarking upon the infinite path to perfection».
