The Campania Region Chamber Orchestra
– Luigi Piovano
On May 25th 2005 Myung Whun-Chung returns for
the third time to conduct in Campania. This time
however not leading one of his symphonic orchestras,
the Academy of Saint Cecilia Orchestra or the
Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, but
a young orchestra from Southern Italy founded
only three years ago. The result is an extraordinary
event marked by the desire to perform music together
with enthusiasm and passion, also a well-deserved
acknowledgement for an ensemble that over a few
years has developed artistically in an astonishing
way, maturing a brilliance of sound and a showing
interpretative maturity worthy of far more noble
camber music groups. The Campania Region Chamber
Orchestra can today boast many other experiences,
such as those with Luis Bacalov, Stefano Bollani,
Giovanni Allevi, and Bustric. The orchestra gives
concerts on a regular basis as the permanent ensemble
for the International Festival in Pompeii, and
above all specialised in Italian baroque repertoires,
with a number of first ever modern versions recorded
for Naxos and Artemide. The Orchestra’s
founder and permanent conductor is Luigi Piovano,
first solo violoncello at the Saint Cecilia Academy
in Rome, with which the orchestra made its first
tour of Japan in October 2007.
