Yetzabel Arias Fernandez - Massimo Lonardi - Maurizio Piantelli

Laus Concentus is a vocal-instrumental group founded in 1992 by lute-player Maurizio Piantelli. With changing musicians according to the repertoires presented, the group uses original instruments or exact copies and follows a philological performing practice. Regularly invited by the most important events addressing ancient music, he became famous all over the world also with recordings made for La Bottega Discantica. His characteristic is to prepare ad hoc programmes on the history, architecture and setting of the various places in which he is invited. In this small suggestive Church of SS. Annunziata, built in the 13th Century and entrusted at the end of the 15th Century to the Noble Brotherhood of the Catalans to serve the religious needs of the large community of Spanish merchants active in Messina. The soprano Yetzabel Arias Fernanez will present an antique repertoire accompanied by Massimo Lonardi and Maurizio Piantelli, authentic virtuosi of the vihuela de manu, the instrument-symbol par excellance of Spanish musical culture. With a straight neck and built flat like a guitar, and with a central rosette decorated like a lute, the vihuela was initially popular among the higher levels of society; it soon however experienced enormous popularity becoming the Catholic equivalent of the Arab-Muslim oud.
