Antonello Salis and Furio di Castri
Even when he returns home a musician continues
to travel. “The project entitled Wine at
the opera” says Furio di Castri “was
also the result of travel memories and above all
those linked to the taste of the places where
I performed. In the past I had experimented with
combinations between music and taste and so it
seemed natural to write adaptations of opera arias
dedicated to wine. I chose Antonello Salis as
my travelling companion in this adventure because
of our friendship, our artistic complicity and
above all for his ability in managing the theatre
stage”. Concerts by the Salis-de Castri
duo (both members of the PAF Trio together with
trumpet player Paolo Fresu) have in fact a spectacular
element. These concerts are happenings, a sound
adventure, an encounter that sparkles. In their
homage to the world of opera there is a great
desire to enjoy themselves, but also great historical
awareness of what the melodrama represented in
European culture as well as the personal experience
of their generation. From Mozart to Offenbach,
from Donizetti to Puccini, entrusted to Salis’
accordion and piano or to Furio di Castri’s
bass, the arias praising wine progressively assume
other characteristics becoming blues, swing, original
music and opportunities for celebrating the pleasure
of performing together with a long and joyful
toast of notes.
