Gabriele Ferro

Gabriele Ferro closes the series of Sicilian conductors
present at the cycle of symphonic concerts presented
by the E.A.R. Teatro di Messina in cooperation
with the city’s concert associations. Born
in Palermo, Gabriele Ferro rose to fame in 1970
winning the competition for young conductors organised
by RAI. Since then he has led symphonic orchestras
such as the Wiener Symphoniker, the Bamberger
Symphoniker, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande,
the Philarmonique de Radio France and the Orchestre
National de France, the BBC, the WDR-Orchester,
the Cleveland Orchestra, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig,
the Orchestra Giovanile Italiana and the Orchestra
della Toscana. Previously the main conductor for
the RAI Orchestra in Rome, the permanent director
for the Sinfonica Siciliana, the artistic director
of the Stuttgart Staatstheater, the musical director
of the San Carlo in Naples, he has recorded for
the DGG, Sony, Emi and Erato labels, also achieving
success with opera productions as well as showing
interest for 20th Century and contemporary music,
presenting a number of absolute premiers. Winner
of the 2003 Abbiati Award, he is an Academician
at Santa Cecilia and a professor of orchestra
conducting at the Fiesole School of Music. In
his concert for the Laudamo Philharmonic he conducts
The Titan by Mahler, and, an authentic rarity,
Blumine, originally composed as the second movement
of this symphony and then removed from the opera’s
final version.
