Mattia Zappa and Massimiliano Mainolfi

Cellist Mattia Zappa and the pianist Massimiliano Mainolfi met when they were studying at the Julliard School, and it was in the classrooms of this prestigious American institution that their instrumental duo was formed. They made their debut immediately art the Lincoln Center in New York, participating in the Chamber Music Evenings in the Alice Tully Hall. During their education this duo studied under Felix Galimir, Gérard Wyess, Steven Isserlis, Andràs Schiff and Ferenc Rados. The duo then won important international competitions such as the “Viotti” in Vercelli” (2000), the “Gui” in Florence (2001), The Trio Award in Trieste (2002), and toured Europe on a number of occasions. After holding their first concert at the Carnegie Hall in New York in 2001, Mattia Zappa and Massimiliano Mainolfi were invited by Deutschland-Radio to play at the Berlin Philharmonic’s Kammermusiksaal, in a concert broadcast live and later published as a CD. The duo’s recordings include various CDs recorded for the Ducale and the Lira Classica labels.
