The Bass Gang

An absolute novelty in the world of quartets, The Bass Gang is the result of research, but also above all of the desire of four orchestra professors to enjoy themselves by performing together. This unusual ensemble in fact consists in a four of double basses, instruments that have always benne considered rather cumbersome, not agile or suited to melodies but rather to be used as harmonic support for serious music. The Bass Gang instead intends to show-off the variety of the sound range and the wealth of octaves and harmonies they manage to produce, presenting a rich repertoire filled with incursions into all the musical genres. And the ensemble does this with humour, breaking the rules of traditional concerts with an eclectic and slightly impromptu, and at times surprising choice, ranging from most classical of all music to Rock. The Bass Gang has recorded four CDs and has toured the USA, Portugal, Japan, and Korea. The group has also been on the cover of and had a lengthy reportage in the English magazine The Double Bassist. Its members are all lead musicians in prestigious orchestras such as the Orchestra of the Santa Cecilia Academy, the Toscanini Philharmonic Orchestra in Parma, and the Orchestra of the Florentine Musical May.
