Orchestra
Filarmonica Toscanini - Giuseppe Sinopoli
The Arturo Toscanini Foundation in Parma and the
Taormina Arte - Festival Sinopoli Foundation provide
season ticket holders for the Laudamo Philharmonic
with an opportunity to attend, participating actively,
the final evenings of the 1st edition of the International
Competition for Conductors entitled to the great
conductor and composer Giuseppe Sinopoli, who,
although he was not born in Messina, received
his initial musical education on the shores of
the Straight, returning here in 1985 to inaugurate
the reopened Vittorio Emanuele Theatre with the
London Philharmonic Orchestra and then later as
the artistic director of TaoArte which is centred
on Wagner’s Myth and dramaturgy. He died
prematurely in 2001 while conducting the Aida
at the Deutsche Opera in Berlin, and it is to
him that the conductors competition is dedicated.
This event ends precisely with two concerts, the
Semi-final for four candidates and the Final with
only two. The Jury is presided over by Sir John
Eliot Gardiner, and the orchestra is the Toscanini
Philharmonic. Two awards will also be assigned
on the last evening, the Orchestra’s Special
Award and the Audience’s Special Award for
one of the four semi-finalists performing on the
evenings of October 24th and 25th. Season ticket
holders who are interested in attending this event
are invited to book in time with the Laudamo Philharmonic
Orchestra’s Secretary’s Office.
